In the 18’s it’s the 80s again…

While sorting through a few thousand Brit tabloids (NME, Sounds, Melody Maker, Hot Press, Disc) from the 1980s, and hoping the dust wasn’t the cause of my 3 days in bed, I found some of these early video mags and newsletters.  A great many of these were from the mind of our pal, Ed Steinberg, a pioneer in the industry.  He started Rockamerica – still going as RockaMedia LLC – and his video vision included making Madonna‘s first ever music video in 1982, “Everybody.”  I preferred his “Too Many Creeps” for the Bush Tetras from a year or so earlier, but as many have pointed out I have absolutely no pop sensibilities…

You remember video tape, right?  A clumsy short lived medium that created MTV and gave you something to do while slouch-couching at Hurrahs or Danceteria.  Well the hey-day is past, but we’re saving these charts here at the ARC.  How else ya gonna know that in November of 1981 Classix Nouveaux’s “Guilty” had just beat out Talking Heads’ “Once in a Lifetime” at number 13?
