Vernon Reid
At the end of 1995, Vernon Reid was working on an all-instrumental album
that was not a Living Colour project. His record company, Epic (Sony),
was wary.
Vernon asked us to put together a list of top-selling instrumentals to
show that it could be done successfully--that there was the possibility
of songs with no words charting. Well, true, it hasn't happened lately
in rock, and we didn't look very hard at the jazz, Latin or dance charts.
But we did send him this list--pretty much out of our heads--and then
checked what charted in "Billboard Top Pop Albums" by Joel
Whitburn. The end result, Vernon Reid's "Mistaken Identity."
By the way stay on board the CD for an extra minute or so after the
music ends for the "Who Invited You" promo.
