We can only hope that the devil will once again come to our aid as the World Series begins tonight. Maybe the ghost of Eddie Layton will sit at the organ to usher in the team once again – tis the frightening season after all, with Halloween and the elections coming up!

And speaking of ghosts from the past, here’s a pennant from my youth. I only follow the American League because I grew up near Cleveland. So the devil made me root for the Yanks…

About the same time as Damn Yankees debuted, a Cold War relic, a one-sided transcription disc from Radio Liberation was destined for Soviet turntables, but ended up here at ARC.

This was produced by those devilish CIA folks who were funding a West German enterprise, Radio Liberty, disguised for Halloween as The American Committee for Freedom for the Peoples of the USSR.   No doubt the typist got a little excited while listening to the game, and inspired thousands of bewildered Soviet protesters to chant, “Mankees Go Home.”   I’ll be chanting that tonight as the East and the West oppose each other in the October Revolution!  Ooops, I mean “Classic.”
