So nice that so many are posting on the Joni Mitchell appearance at Newport. When I was in Ann Arbor, in the late 60s (1967 I think) I used to set up chairs at Canterbury House in order to see the shows for free. One night they introduced the first appearance here by a young Canadian singer and songwriter, Joni Mitchell. I remember the clarity and the piercing highs in her voice. That night most folks in the audience didn’t quite know what to make of “Both Sides Now.” It was about a year before her first LP. This year it was great to feel the joy on stage and in the crowd in these Newport clips, her songs now so familiar. So loved.
