You know, the Holiday sale is not just for getting rid of extra copies, it’s a clarion call for MORE. Responding to that call was ol’ pal Ben Young who dropped off ten cartons of record and distribution company catalogs accumulated over years as a jazz programmer and radio head-honcho. Nice to see a pile of early Blue Note Catalogs – not to mention clippings and cats from Sun Ra’s Saturn Label. Yes, a wonderful treasure trove of goodies, including those pictured here. New Music Distribution was THE avant-garde hang in the 80s, the Keith Herring cover is a treat to see (even if the scanner thinks orange = pink).
The other two folkie catalogs are from pals at Arhoolie and Folkways. Oddly enough these catalogs were not only found next to each other, but both companies are now based in DC. So if you remember when Folkways was in New York, you’ve lived too long…
But if you’re still around, how about dropping by for the ARC Holiday Sale – goes til Dec. 18. We’d love to see you!
