Folks, the famous ARChive of Contemporary Music Summer Record Sale is almost here… less than three weeks away. There will be some very fabulous things for sale. In the photograph accompanying this text, you will see only nine of the many fine items that will be up for sale starting June 13 (June 11 if you are a member and come to our Members’ Pre-Sale Party). For this installment of Wall Items Extravaganza, you will note cool modern jazz (Archie Shepp in MONO!!), British progressive rock (Van Der Graaf Generator!), Captain Beefheart (the Canadian version of this record has a custom label, unlike the US or UK counterparts), top-notch Detroit hard rock (MC5 – yeah!!), the very rare US version of David Bowie‘s Man Who Sold the World, contemporary rock with Alice in Chains (not too many of these “Tripod” LPs were made), and some hard-to-find psyche rock (The Lollipop Shoppe and Alexander’s Timeless Bloozeband.
It is interesting to note that Fred Cole, who was in The Lollipop Shoppe, was also involved with the ninth item: Dead Moon, a contemporary psyche rock band that has developed a sizable following, even though the group’s records are difficult to find.
You just don’t see these records everyday–at least not in person. Over the next several days we’ll post a few more photos of the great stuff that will be for sale in June. Stay tuned!
