ARC has hundreds of outer space related recordings here, where we make a great many physical and electronic ‘sorts’ based on themes — like this one, a bit goofy. There are Mars records, moon records, comedy space records. You get the picture. Unlike other sites, all these recordings are owned by ARC – part of the permanent collection – not just downloaded from the net. So here are some nice pictures of 45s and LPs by artists who thought it a good idea to put on a space helmet, a modified goldfish bowl or sprout antennae of any kind.
Surprisingly there was never an LP of Bernard Herrmann’s The Day The Earth Stood Still soundtrack, but that didn’t stop a few Gort wanabees and lucky for us, a CD issue. “Klaatu barada nikto!”
