gallery: UK Printed 78 Sleeves

ARC recently processed a trove of 78rpm discs with heavy printed cardboard sleeves from the UK, part of our work with partners @ the Internet Archive. While we’re not experts on 78s, we have handled 100’s of thousands and we’ve not seen the like.

Most 78 sleeves are either plain paper or printed with the record company’s logo or name and generic design. THESE however are all adverts for the shop selling the recordings. In a way these are early attempts at creating a picture sleeve, or at least adding a layer of information, albeit adverting, linked to the recording. Posting a few here in hopes that it will perhaps inform our British friends about the locations of some long-gone (?) gramophone shops.  Is someone making us a map of all these locations?
